Once an app is granted Superuser access it is listed in the Superuser app (below)

Rooting is the process of allowing users of smartphones and tablets, and other devices running the Android mobile operating system to attain privileged control(known as "root access") within Android's subsystem.

Rooting enables all the user-installed applications to run privileged commands that are typically unavailable to the devices in their stock configuration. Rooting is required for more advanced and potentially dangerous operations including modifying or deleting system files, removing carrier- or manufacturer-installed applications, and low-level access to the hardware itself (rebooting, controlling status lights, or recalibrating touch inputs.) A typical rooting installation also installs the Superuser application, which supervises applications that are granted root or superuser rights.

The Superuser app usually looks like this                       All rooted apps must be granted special permissions

                                                                                         before accessing the system.

Free Wifi Tether - Is usually an app or hack that enables tethering (via wifi) for "rooted" handsets running Android. Clients (your laptop or tablet for example) can connect via wifi and get access to the internet using your phones 4G, 3G and 2G connection.

However these apps or hacks usually require a device to be rooted. If used moderately you can use undetected without incurring any monthly charges.

AOSP ROMs like CyanogenMod and MIUI offer stock Android which will remove things like HTC's Sense or Sprint's Apps. CyanogenMod ROMs are of the more popular ROMs.

Other Roms like Fresh 3.5 offer a ROM very similar to the default experience (with added speed and battery-life) by leaving Sense (or whatever skin your device has) and incorporating over the air updates into an updated version of the ROM.

Rom Flashing - Flashing a ROM refers to the installation of a version of the Android OS or Windows Mobile OS

on a mobile device.
